What Healthcare Professionals Are Saying About Massage

ABOUT ME
Who I am. What I am trained to do to help you.
You, of course, do not want to read about me when the massage is about you, but please bear with me briefly.
My name is Ron. I am a trained, licensed, nationally Board Certified massage therapist. I live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, Northern Virginia, NOVA, (Fairfax, Virginia).

I am an in-shape, mature, masculine, blond-grey, 5’ 9”, slender, very active guy.

I am comfortable to be around, nonjudgmental, reliable, dependable, loyal and discreet.

Which is the right massage for you?

My massages are for everyone over 18, men and women. Everyone is an equal and all are treated royally when they come to experience my massage royale!!

I work out of a doctor’s office in Fairfax, Virginia, in a private studio, and I will come to you at your office, home or hotel.

I work as a Volunteer Massage Therapist at Capital Hospice at their Acute Care Unit in Arlington where the average stay for patients is seven to eight days, where doctors write orders for end-of-life patients who may benefit from Light Touch Massage, vastly different from the Swedish massage healthy clients receive when they get a massage. At this facility, I have worked with terminally ill patients from five days to over 100 years old.

I do chair massage for corporate meetings and get-togethers.
A great way to reward employees -- or just to relax them on occasion. Chair massages are usually ten or not more than fifteen minutes. No oils or cremes are used and it is not necessary to remove any clothing. And no, ladies, your hair will not be disturbed. It is relaxing, stress-relieving massage of primarily the neck, back, arms and shoulders.

Thai Bodywork (Massage) is becoming one of the most popular massage modalities in the Western world today.
Thai massage is one of the ancient healing arts of traditional Thai medicine. The term “bodywork” is more appropriate than “massage” when discussing this modality.

Who needs traditional Thai massage and manipulation? You do if your body is crying out: “Touch me, stretch me, hold me, listen to me, comfort me, heal me.” Such body cries often go unheard. Thai bodywork can be the answer to your body’s pleas and it could be the first important step that leads you to seek its unique benefits.

Interaction through physical contact has been fundamental to most Eastern cultures for thousands of years, yet the practice still remains quite foreign to most Westerners in our touch-deprived society.

What Thai bodywork can do for you: Yoga is generally accepted as being an effective way of remaining healthy and flexible. However, receiving Thai bodywork is the simple way of obtaining the benefits of yoga and more - without having to do it yourself.

Thai Bodywork - Touch me, Stretch me.
Touch is one of the greatest medicines. It soothes, releases and comforts. Our wholeness is nourished by frequent and regular doses of this all-pervading medicine. In this context, wholeness includes spiritual and emotional aspects as well as the more easily observed physical ones.
When looked at with a knowledge of Western medicine, it is easy to see how massage and manipulation can stimulate the flow of blood and lymph (tissue fluid), warm the tissues, improve flexibility and ease pain, all of which are essentially physical.
Such is the power of touch that it also reaches far into the hidden recesses of our being. It has been shown that touch can result in the release of chemical substances within the nervous system called endorphins, which counteract pain and produce powerful feeling of well-being.
Thai bodywork involves different forms of touch - pressing, stretching and twisting - which have been honed to perfection over 2,500 years. Those who receive Thai bodywork regularly will experience feelings of relaxation, peace of mind, happiness, flexibility and youthfulness.
Thai bodywork is a fusion of techniques, each of them with its own specific effect. Some techniques apply pressure to the Sen channels while others produce the wonderful twists and stretches that often resemble applied yoga. Pressing is the means of stimulating movement of energy in the Sen channels and manipulations stretch muscles. Feet, palms, thumbs, elbows and knees are the tools of the Thai therapist. The unhurried pace and smooth flow that characterize this form of bodywork detracts from the very deep pressure and powerful stretches that are used. Thai bodywork is like a beautifully choreographed duet: the basic theme is repeated over and over again, but with subtle variations for each body part that is treated.
So is it uncomfortable? Is it painful? Thai massage if administered by a trained and skilled therapist is never painful.
The stretches, presses and pulls are done only to the point that they commence to cause mild discomfort and are stopped. At subsequent sessions, the stretches and pulls are done using more pressure than the previous session until your goal is obtained - complete range of motion without pain or discomfort.
A Thai bodywork session usually requires 90 minutes to two hours and the cost is $150. It is done on the floor on a pad and loose clothing may be worn.

 MY TRAINING:

My undergraduate training is in secondary education; my graduate work is in clinical psychology. My massage training is in Swedish therapeutic massage which is a relaxing, stress-releasing technique, and the method required for state licensing as well as national certification.

I do sports massage (pre-event massage) and deep-tissue work for athletic types, but this type of massage while therapeutic and healing, is not for relaxation.

I do medical massage for disabled patients, those suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, and various other illnesses where massage is very beneficial and which is prescribed or recommended by their doctor. This work is usually done in the patient’s home on an outcall basis.

Lymphedema Management Certification. I am trained in lymphatic drainage, a technique requiring a special type of massage and wrapping (bandaging) of the involved limb. This is a very specialized treatment consisting of lymphatic drainage massage and bandaging of the affected limb on a daily basis for two weeks, after which the patient is trained to do the wrapping, as well as prescribed exercises which help to alleviate the edema. Lymphedema is not curable, and one that must be continually treated, but the symptoms and swelling can be greatly alleviated to the point where the compliant patient is often able to carry on a normal lifestyle wearing a prescribed and fitted garment and no longer needs the bandaging on a daily basis. Wearing of the garment is, however, a lifelong necessity.

Because of the concentrated nature of this treatment, it is expensive and you should check with your doctor if he/she will prescribe this treatment and then with your insurance company to see if they will cover this type of treatment. Many doctors are not well informed of this practice which has been used effectively in Europe for many years.

I have had extensive training in massage of the handicapped, as well as training in working with senior citizens who can benefit from and obtain considerable relief from massage. This massage is done in their home, an assisted-care facility or nursing home.

I love working with people and love all of the phases of massage, but the work I do primarily, however, is the enjoyable part of this job: therapeutic, stress-relieving Swedish massage! This is the type of massage that heals the body, calms the mind and renews the spirit, and has you walking out the door with a smile on your face, and often saying what is music to my ears, “See you next week!”

Come and enjoy. You will feel better.
